Kitten Rescued From Storm Drain By Bradenton Firefighters

Two people had heard the cat after it got stuck in a four-inch sewer pipe along Manatee Avenue, officials said.

Bradenton firefighters rescued a six- to eight-week-old kitten after it got stuck in a storm drain Sunday night.

The Bradenton Fire Department was called in around 5:19 p.m. after two citizens heard the cat, which was trapped in a four-inch sewer pipe in the 1500 block of Manatee Avenue West.

"Firefighters removed a metal grate, used a gas detector to check the air quality, then determined the best means of rescuing the cat using specialized equipment and assistance from Animal Services," fire spokesperson Rebecca Pilsbury said in a media release.

The kitten was safely removed about an hour later and turned over to an Animal Services representative, Pilsbury said.
