Holmes Beach Mayor's Gun Is Stolen

The Mayor reported that someone stole a .38-caliber gun from his vehicle.

Holmes Beach Mayor Carmel Monti's .38-caliber handgun was stolen from his Toyota SUV, the Islander is reporting.

Mayor Monti made out a report on April 22 to the Holmes Beach Police Department, stating that his 2001 vehicle was burglarized. The mayor initially said he had hidden the handgun under a cloth between his car seats, the Islander reports. He later said the gun had been in the glove compartment.

The Mayor did not notice his gun was missing and told police the burglary occurred sometime between February and April.

Monti was elected in Novemer 2012 to a two-year term that expires in November 2014.
