Holmes Beach Mayor's Gun Is Stolen

The Mayor reported that someone stole a .38-caliber gun from his vehicle.

Holmes Beach Mayor Carmel Monti's .38-caliber handgun was stolen from his Toyota SUV, the Islander is reporting.

Mayor Monti made out a report on April 22 to the Holmes Beach Police Department, stating that his 2001 vehicle was burglarized. The mayor initially said he had hidden the handgun under a cloth between his car seats, the Islander reports. He later said the gun had been in the glove compartment.

The Mayor did not notice his gun was missing and told police the burglary occurred sometime between February and April.

Monti was elected in Novemer 2012 to a two-year term that expires in November 2014.

Yeah...right mayor. Changed your story to "glove compartment" when you found out the truth would mean you actually had a concealed weapon for which you probably do not have a license for (if it were merely under a cloth between the seats as initially reported). Something's not adding up.

Good point Mark. "The mayor did not notice his gun was missing and told police the burglary occurred sometime between February and April". Why does it take three months for the mayor to even notice his gun is missing? Most gun owners would know right away. Like you said probably no CCW in any event don't let this mayor get another handgun if he's this careless. Don't forget to vote for another mayor in Holmes Beach in 2014.
