Driver Robbed, Pistol-Whipped, After Being Asked for Directions

The female driver asked for directions, but then two men emerged from the back seat of her vehicle and demanded cash.

A man trying to help a motorist claiming to be lost allegedly was ambushed by two men in her vehicle, robbed of his wallet and pistol-whipped, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim told deputies that he had just returned to his trailer home from the Racetrack gas station, at 5300 14th Street W.,  when a woman driving a small compact vehicle pulled up next to him.

The woman claimed to be lost and needing directions to Palmetto.  As the victim approached the vehicle, two men got out and pointed a gun at the victim demanding his money and wallet.

The victim said that he was frisked and then pistol-whipped.  The men got back into the vehicle, which drove east out of the trailer park.
