Driver in Fatal Kentucky Crash Had Suspended License

A Brandeton couple died in the accident, which killed five people.

David Vanderpool was driving with a suspended license Christmas Eve, when his car crossed a median on a Kentucky highway, hit another vehicle and killed all four of the occupants, according to media reports.

Killed in the accident were Brent and Julia Robinson, both of Bradenton; and Gary and Patricia Caldwell, Julia's parents. Vanderpool also died in the crash.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokeswoman Lisa Tolliver told the Lexington Herald-Leader that Vanderpool's license was suspended.

The newspaper and WKYT-TV report that Vanderpool was arrested on Dec. 5 for driving on a suspended license and officials added a longer suspension.

Vanderpool originally lost his license for driving without a permit and then did not showing up for a court hearing to answer to the citation, according to media reports. He also served time after a conviction for receiving stolen property.
