Chef Who Boiled Wife Is Sentenced

David Viens and his wife, Dawn had operated the Beach City Market in Bradenton Beach prior to moving to California.

The former Anna Maria Island restaurant owner who confessed to boiling his wife's body after killing her was sentenced Friday to 15 years to life in prison, according to CBS.

in Los Angeles of killing his 39-year-old wife, Dawn, in 2009. Her body was never found.

Viens confessed to the murder and to cooking the body in a recorded interrogation, after he had injured himself trying to jump off a cliff. The gruesome details of her disappearance and death emerged in the high-profile trial.

David and Dawn Viens had operated the Beach City Market, at 1701 Gulf Drive, in Bradenton Beach, which is now closed. They also ran the Island Kitchen and Market, at 414 Pine Ave., Anna Maria Island.

Viens later recanted his confession during his courtroom trial, when he represented himself.
