Bradenton Man Shoots Himself in Leg

A Bradenton man accidentally shot himself in the leg while handling a 1911A1 pistol while in his driveway.

A 35-year-old man suffered a self-inflicted gun wound in west Bradenton Tuesday evening while inside his vehicle in his driveway, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

David Mederios Jr., was in the driver's seat near the 3300 block of 36th Avenue West around 8:15 p.m., when he reached over his girlfriend, who was sitting in the  passenger seat, to retrieve a gun inside the glove box, according to the report.

However, when Mederios removed the 1911A1 pistol, the hammer was back, the safety was off and there was a live round in the chamber, the report states. The gun discharged while Mederios was handling it and he reportedly shot himself in the left leg.
