82-year-old Pilot Dies in Ultralight Crash

The Federal Aviation Administration will not investigate the crash because the aircraft was a homemade experimental ultralight.

An 82-year-old man was killed Monday in when his homemade ultralight aircraft crashed off of Buckeye Road and Grass Farm Road in north Manatee County, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's report.

James Richard Clendenon was already dead when deputies responded to the crash at about 4:35 p.m. Monday. According to the sheriff's report, Clendenon took off from Airport Manatee located on U.S. 41 in Palmetto. 

The Federal Aviation Administration will not investigate the crash because the aircraft was a homemade experimental ultralight.
