5-Year-Old Abducted During Carjacking

A child was abducted during a carjacking after his mother loaded him into a vehicle, went inside to get something and returned to find the child and car missing.

Roberto Guerriero, 29, of Bradenton was arrested and charged with grand theft auto and child abduction after he stole a car with a child sitting in it around midnight on the 3200 block of Eighth Street East, according to the report.

The child's mother said she was at a house party and was in the process of leaving when she loaded the 5-year-old in the car and walked away for a few minutes to get something, the report said. When she came back her vehicle was gone with her child inside, the report stated.

Manatee County Sheriff's Office responded and issued a BOLO describing the vehicle the child, a report said.

Around 2 a.m., deputies were flagged down by some citizens giving the location of the Guerriero, according to the report.

Guerriero was arrested and taken to Manatee County Jail and the stolen vehicle was located shortly after with the child inside unharmed.
