Join the Parkinson Café @ the Asolo Repertory Theatre on Feb. 3

The Parkinson Café, designed to provide social, cultural and intellectual interaction for people with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners, will meet at the Asolo Repertory Theatre on Feb. 3.

The program runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Asolo Repertory Theatre, 5555 North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, on the first Monday in February.  Medtronic DBS will sponsor complimentary coffee at 10 a.m. on the second-floor mezzanine.  At 10:15 a.m. Lynn and her husband Brad Schramek, who was diagnosed with PD in 2005, will kick off the program with a getting-to-know-you session. At 11 a.m., participants will be treated to a back-stage tour at the theatre. The lunch speaker, actress Carolyn Michel, will present the magic of theatre. Then Asolo’s Alex Suczewski will highlight cultural opportunities offered by the Asolo Rep.

This will be Sarasota’s second Parkinson Café event.  The Parkinson Cafe @ the Ringling Museum was held the first Monday in November.  A Parkinson Café @ the Sarasota Ballet is being planned for March.

Lynn B. Schramek created the Parkinson Café in 2009 while she was living in upstate New York, after her husband Brad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at 45. Two Parkinson Café series each meet monthly during the fall and winter in the Rochester, NY, area. The Schrameks relocated to Bradenton last fall.  Lynn was awarded the US trademark for the Parkinson Café in September 2013.

“I am launching the Parkinson Café in Sarasota with a cultural arts series to ensure that people with PD are accessing the wonderful cultural opportunities offered in our community,” Schramek said.

RSVP to Lynn Schramek at 941.351.6281, lynn@parkinsoncafe.org.  Go to www.parkinsoncafe.org for more information and the lunch menu. The event is free, a pre-ordered lunch is $15.
