Bradenton Breast Cancer Survivors Win Costume Contest That Raises $2k for Pets

The following is a news release from BluePearl Veterinary Partners:

A woman who survived breast cancer and her dog, who also survived breast cancer, won the grand prize for BluePearl Veterinary Partners’ Beastly Costume Contest, a nationwide Halloween costume contest for pets, that raised more than $2,000 for Frankie’s Friends pet charity.

The grand prize winner was Jennifer Weghorst of Bradenton, Fla., with her photo receiving 242 votes.

Participants had to upload a photo of their cat or dog in a costume to enter the BluePearl Beastly Costume Contest at http://www.facebook.com/BluePearlVeterinaryPartners.

Weghorst’s winning photo was of her and her husband, Tim, dressed as police officers, and their dogs Ojo, Hilo, Milo and Kono, dressed as prisoners.

In all, there were 2010 votes, for which BluePearl Veterinary Partners will donate $1 for each vote to Frankie’s Friends, a charity dedicated to saving pets whose families would otherwise not be able to afford lifesaving specialty or emergency treatment.  

Weghorst will receive $100 to spend at Posh Puppy Boutique and a 16 x 20 stylized print portrait of her dogs by artist Carla Ciuffo. Ciuffo’s pet portraits can be seen at http://www.carlaciuffophotography.com/p881571408.

The total grand prize value is estimated to be worth $700.

The contest ran from October 18 through 27.
