The
Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota’s next Freethinkers’ Briefing will
feature Rabbi Adam Chalom in a presentation entitled Secular Spirituality:
Oxymoron or Emotional Meaning?  Questions
that will be discussed include:  What is
the balance between a secular lifestyle and spiritual or emotional fulfillment?
Where do Humanists find what Humanistic psychologist Abraham Maslow called
"Peak Experiences"? Is "spirituality" an inappropriate
concept for Humanists? Or is it a basic human need that we must find a way to
meet?



 



Chalom,
a lifelong Humanist and Humanistic Jew, is one of the leading voices in
Humanistic Judaism. He is the Dean for North America of the International
Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism and Rabbi of Kol Hadash Humanistic Congregation
in suburban Chicago, Illinois. He also serves on the Advisory Council of The
Humanist Institute and participated in the 2012 Symposium of the Institute for
Humanist Studies. His most recent publication work was editing Sherwin Wine's
posthumous magnum opus, "A Provocative People: A Secular History of the
