Community Corner

Bike Safety and Theft Prevention Event

The
Bradenton Police Department is proud to partner with several local businesses, community
partners, public safety agencies, and Westminster Presbyterian Church who will
host a Bicycle Safety and Theft Prevention Event which will be held on April 5,
2014, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon., at 3011 19th Ave. West, Bradenton,
FL. This is a FREE event for the public.

Information
will be provided on Bicycle Theft Prevention and Safety. Bicycle theft is a
growing problem in many communities and learning how to better secure your
bicycle is the first step in preventing this crime.  Injuries to children who have not learned to
safely ride their bicycles is also a growing concern. Children will be able to
participate in a bicycle safety roundup, where they will learn the “rules of
the road” and how to remain safe while having fun riding their bicycles.  Free helmets and bike lights will be given
out, while supplies last.  Free Vial of
Life kits will be distributed. These kits provide emergency service personnel
information on emergency contacts and health history in order to help save your
life.   The Bradenton Police Department S.W.A.T.
Armored Rescue Vehicle (ARV) will be on display, along with personnel from the
Manatee County EMS.  T-shirts and discount
cards will be available for sale to support the West Bradenton Crime Watch
Program, a non-profit organization, that partners with the Bradenton Police
Department to bring safety awareness to the citizens of Bradenton.

Additionally,
there will be free items distributed from local businesses.  Although there is no admission charge,
bringing a canned good to the event is encouraged and will be donated to a
local food bank.
