The new political drama "House of Cards" that debuted on Netflix over the weekend takes a swipe at Sarasota and its "McMansions," according to Sarasota Magazine.
Star Kevin Spacey, who portrays a "ruthless, manipulative congressman" and makes the unflattering mention in the series' second epsidode, as Sarasota Magazine explains:
Speaking contemptuously of a former staffer who left to become a highly paid lobbyist, Spacey said the staffer didn’t appreciate the difference between money and power: “Money is the McMansion in Sarasota that falls apart after 10 years,” he said. “Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries.”
"House of Cards" is Netflix's first venture into original programming. The first season was made available for streaming in its entirety Feb. 1.
