PHOTOS: North Trail Goodwill Grand Opening

Goodwill Manasota's 30,000-square-foot store opened Tuesday evening to shoppers.

Like a good neighbor, Goodwill is there.

Goodwill Manasota might want to borrow the State Farm jingle for its new all-in-one store on the North Trail called the Peggy & Don Roberts Good Neighbor Center, named after the retired chief executive and his wife Peggy, the also retired president of housing for the organization.

The store, 5150 N. Tamiami Trail, had its grand opening Tuesday evening to shoppers and supporters, and the 30,000 square feet features more than just clothes, furniture and jewelry.

But beyond the granddad's clothes where many of folk will look incredible, there are community resources inside the store.

The Goodwill features a Job Connection center where the community can be connected with employers in Manatee, Sarasota and Desoto counties and the Good Neighbor Center where not only can you have personalized assistance for a job search, but the community can take workshops and classes at the store, too, learning sign language and a range of other skills.

“We are excited about this newer and larger space, which allows us to keep our presence in the North Trail community,” said Bob Rosinsky, CEO and president of Goodwill Manasota. "We're consolidating and offering more career-related services, along with providing shoppers with a great shopping experience. This new location will continue to support our mission of turning donations in employment that will help the Sarasota and Manatee communities in their goal for economic sustainability.”

To sign up for availible classes, visit Good Neighbor Center or call 941-359-8211. A community room is also available for non-profits to use for meeting space as well.

The store had clearenced items out from its former store just south of the current site so it could start with all new inventory, said Yen Reed, spokeswoman for Goodwill-Manasota. The former store closed Feb. 17 and the former Job Connection Center at 3105 N. Tamiami Trail also closed to be consolidated with this store.

Beginning Wednesday morning, the furniture will be on sale to the public.

The store's hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
