Schools Offer Dinner to Hungry Students

Four Manatee County elementary schools are participating in a pilot project that offers kids evening meals. What do you think about the idea?

The cafeterias at four Manatee County public schools are staying open longer to serve up kids three squares a day.

Daughtrey, Rogers Garden, Tillman and Palmetto elementary are all offering kids in after-school programs hot dinners at no cost to them, according to the Bradenton Herald.

Paid for by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Food Program, the evening meal roll out is hoped to help students in after-school programs focus better on their studies instead of their stomachs, the Herald says.
