5 Things to Do on New Year's Eve

You don't have to travel far to have a good time, whether it's watching fireworks pop or seeing a giant pineapple drop.

1.) Main Street Live: This outdoor New Year's Eve party is one for the grownups. Let's just hope it warms up. Appropriately, the live music will be performed by Hot Ice, an apt description for a chilly Florida night under the stars. The fun starts at 3 p.m. and doesn't stop until 1 a.m., but the bars along Old Main Street will stay open until 2:30 a.m.

2.) BeachHouse Restaurant's New Year's Eve Party: This Bradenton Beach estabilshment, at 200 Gulf Dr. North, is hosting its annual party, which has dinner and dancing and champagne, off course. Fireworks top off the night. For reservations, call 941-779-2222.

3.) Shamrock Shiver Charity Plunge: This fundraiser is actually on Jan. 1. For folks who feel fit and can drag themselves out of bed for the noon event, head to Gulf Drive and 12th Street South, on Bradenton Beach. A party follows at Clancy's, 6218 Cortez Road, Bradenton. The good times are for a good cause: Caring for Children Charities of Manatee and Sarasota Counties. FMI: 941-794-2489.

4.) Sarasota's Pineapple Drop: This outdoor Main Street party starts at 2 p.m. with family-style events, and is followed by live music on four stages starting at 6 p.m. The pineapple drops at midnight.

5.)  Party at the The White Horse British Pub: The Sarasota pub features live entertainment, including special guest Michael Mac & friends (of the Dickey Bett's Band). Kenny Krawley also performs.
