  Bob Brown Art Gallery

Every once in awhile you come across a new gallery that exudes energy. This happened to me yesterday as I crossed paths with Bob Brown Art Gallery in Anna Maria, Florida.   As I was talking to the curator Janet Aubry, she explained the story of the artist. She was not only informative, it felt like she took me on a journey of his life.

In life, as in art, there is always more to any one thing than meets the eye. This is true of Bob Brown’s complex and colorful abstract paintings, and it is true of the artist himself. For over thirty years, Brown worked secretly on his paintings and drawings.  It was not until a few years ago that he shared this labor of a lifetime with a longtime friend who recognized the originality, fun, and brilliance of his constantly evolving style and convinced him to share his talent with the world.

In the three years since Brown has taken his work public, he has received countless accolades. In his first year in the public eye, artist and former First Lady of Florida Rhea Chiles gave him a show at her gallery, The Studio at Gulf and Pine, which nearly sold out. He is now a Resident Artist there. Brown won a juried competition at the Boca Raton School of Art, which he attended for 3 years and took first prize: his winning painting was exhibited at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. He was also selected to exhibit at the juried Creators and Collectors Show at The Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. He was chosen to exhibit a painting at the prestigious international show Art Prize in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

After two years of widespread gallery representation throughout the state of Florida, Brown and business partner Janet Aubry, a career-marketing executive, decided to take the plunge and open a gallery of their own. Friends since the age of 14, Brown and Aubry opened Bob Brown Art Gallery in October 2012 in the historic Anna Maria Island Green Village on Pine Avenue in Anna Maria, Florida. The gallery is a bustling place, filled with Brown’s vibrantly original art. People from all over the world have visited the gallery space and gone home with stunning abstract paintings. Private collectors, professional designers, and art aficionados alike have all gravitated towards the brightness and new promise of Brown’s one-of-a-kind artwork.
