SCF Students Organize 9/11 Memorial

Most of the students were middle schoolers when the terrorists attacked, but it was important to them to remember those who lost their lives.

During the first week of school music students at the State College of Florida startedtalkin gabout what they should do as a memorial for 9/11.

Melodie Dickerson, director of choral and vocal studies, said that the students were the driving force behind the 9/11 memorial program on the lawn at SCF.

That meant a lot of rehearsal time for students in the first two weeks of school. They practiced at school, at home and in extra sessions.

The school's band worked on an arrangement of America the Beautiful under the direction of Robyn Wilkes, director of Instrumental studies.

"It came together very fast," Dickerson said. "They were really motivated."

The program included several vocal numbers, poetry, America the Beautiful and taps, followed by a moment of silence.
