Dog Hit With An Ax is Doing Well

Axel's wounds are healed and a foster family has agreed to take him in.

The mixed breed dog found wandering in the 200 block of 60th Avenue West with a gash to his head most likely from an ax has recovered well from his injuries and is getting ready for heartworm treatment before going home with his foster family.

"Axel's head is healing well and thanks to Dr Luke Berglund's stitching abilities," said Sue Kolze, vice president of Animal Network. "You can hardly see a scar now, and the hair is growing back in."

Support for Axel has poured in from around the world, including much needed money for his medical treatment, Kolze said. The donations will help pay for his ongoing veterinary bills.

No one has been arrested in the case despite leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who abused the dog. The award grew significantly after Sam Simon, the Emmy-winning television writer who helped create the "The Simpsons," contributed $10,000 to the reward.

Axel will begin heartworm treatment next week, and he is scheduled to go to his new home in about two weeks.
