Authors Phillippe Diederich, Marty Fugate and Austin McKinley and will share passages from their recent books, Tuesday, October 1, 7-9 p.m., at Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court in Sarasota. Marty Fugate is a Sarasota-based screenwriter, science fiction writer, humorist and cartoonist. During this event, he’ll read from his most recent collection of short stories, Cosmic Debris, a post-cyberpunk jaunt through time, space and dimension. Fugate writes about architecture, performance, film, literature, politics, art and technology for various publications and for his blog, “New Bad Future.” He’s currently working on ImagN, a cross-platform science fiction series, set for simultaneous release in novel, film and graphic novel formats. Fugate also recently completed a treatment for an animated television mini-series, The Rockitz, a darkly comic, cyberpunk parody of The Jetsons. Austin McKinley is a multiple award-winning author, cartoonist and video producer. He’s worked in video games, comic books, local television, and created video segments for live performances with the Sarasota Orchestra. He wrote and illustrated “Squareasota,” a weekly cartoon for the Herald-Tribune for seven years. McKinley has written two science fiction novels (Hell Bank Notes, The Invisible Thread) and plans many more. (He likes to keep busy.) The author will read from recent works at this event. Phillippe Diederich is a Haitian-American writer and photographer born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Mexico City and Miami. His short fiction has been awarded the 2013 Chris O'Malley Fiction Prize from The Madison Review, and received two Pushcart nominations. His stories have appeared in Quarterly West, The Houston Literary Review, Frostwriting, High Desert Journal and Sheepshead Review. Diederich’s photographic ebook, Communism and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, about the Cuban Harley-Davidson bikers in Havana, is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and iTunes. He currently teaches at Ringling College of Art and Design and Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. Diederich will read from a collection of short stories.
