State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will display an exhibit “Stories-so-far: Constructions of Landscape” by artist Nicole Pietrantoni in an opening reception from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, in the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, building 11 North.
The exhibit, “Stories-so-far: Constructions of Landscape,” is a unique installation that comes alive when light is shined on materials created by the artist, casting a shadow on the wall.
Pietrantoni’s artwork explores the complex relationship between human beings and nature. Employing both traditional and nontraditional methods of printmaking, she creates installations, works on paper and public art.
As a Fulbright Fellow to Iceland in 2010-2011, she was a visiting artist at the Icelandic Printmakers’ Association where she taught printmaking classes and co-chaired a printmaking conference in Reykjavik.
She has been awarded numerous artist residencies in the U.S. and Iceland including the SÍM Residency, Akureyri Artists Residency, and the Ora Lerman Charitable Trust. She was the recipient of a Leifur Eiríksson Foundation Grant, the Margaret Stonewall Wooldridge Hamblet Award, the Elizabeth Catlett Fellowship and a public art commission from the University of Iowa Hospital. Her work is in numerous collections and has been in exhibitions in the United States and abroad.
Pietrantoni received a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts in Printmaking from the University of Iowa. She was a visiting assistant professor in printmaking at the University of Montana-Missoula and currently is an assistant professor of art at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.

More About State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota
SCF, formerly known as Manatee Community College, became a "state" college in 2009 and offered its first four-year workforce degree, a bachelor of science in nursing, in addition to its emphasis on two-year degrees. It changed its name to better reflect its place in the larger community of Manatee and Sarasota counties. The main campus is located in Bradenton, with branches in Lakewood Ranch and Venice. It also operates a collegiate charter school, where high school students can simultaneously work toward an Associate in Art degree. More than 36,000 total students attend annually.
SCF is guided by Dr. Lars A. Hafner, who took over in 2008 as the college's fifth president. The school boasts five varsity athletics programs - women's softball, tennis and volleyball; men's basketball and baseball - who are nicknamed the Manatees in a nod to its previous encarnation as Manatee Community College.
