The session will be held at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, and 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, SCFCS, building 19.

As an innovative, technology-oriented school, SCFCS is a tuition-free public charter school that allows students to explore their potential, discover the importance of higher education and receive personalized coaching in a close-knit school setting.

In its second year, SCFCS earned a second consecutive ‘A’ grade from the Florida Department of Education (DOE) based on students’ performance on the 2012 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.

Students will attend college classes at SCF Bradenton beginning in 11th grade with an opportunity to earn simultaneously a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. A partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) provides a scholarship program for SCFCS students to continue to FGCU for a baccalaureate degree after graduating from SCFCS.

Applications must be submitted in person and will be available at the information sessions. For more information, call 941- 752-5494 or visit scf.edu/SCFCS. Maps and directions are online at scf.edu/maps.

SCF, formerly known as Manatee Community College, became a "state" college in 2009 and offered its first four-year workforce degree, a bachelor of science in nursing, in addition to its emphasis on two-year degrees. It changed its name to better reflect its place in the larger community of Manatee and Sarasota counties. The main campus is located in Bradenton, with branches in Lakewood Ranch and Venice. It also operates a collegiate charter school, where high school students can simultaneously work toward an Associate in Art degree. More than 36,000 total students attend annually.

SCF is guided by Dr. Lars A. Hafner, who took over in 2008 as the college's fifth president. The school boasts five varsity athletics programs - women's softball, tennis and volleyball; men's basketball and baseball - who are nicknamed the Manatees in a nod to its previous encarnation as Manatee Community College.
