Another airline will start to offer nonstop daily flights from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport to New York LaGuardia starting Dec. 15. Delta Air Lines will offer those daily flights, which follows the addition of JetBlue flying daily to LaGuardia starting June 11, the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority announced Tuesday. Delta's existing flights from SRQ to LaGuardia includes layovers in either Atlanta or Detroit. “With our new service between Sarasota Bradenton and New York-LaGuardia, our customers will enjoy convenient access to the preferred airport for travelers flying to and from New York,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s managing director – domestic network planning in a statement. “And thanks to our new domestic hub at LaGuardia…

Do you have a favorite place to dine and drink for Memorial Day?
Summertime, and the living is easy. Barbecues, swimming pools, time off from work and school. Memorial Day 2012 is May 28. With that in mind, we turn to this week’s Readers’ Choice poll to ask: Where's a top spot in Bradenton for Memorial Day eats and drinks? We're talking barbecue or burgers or the All American hot dog with a side of fries. Here are a few of our favorites: Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. on Friday. Ties will be broken based on the rules spelled out in the PDF that’s included along with this story. We’ll declare the winner on Friday, May 18. See the attached PDF for a complete listing of the rules for Readers’ Choice.

Nearly 200 teams and 20,000 attendees will visit Manatee County during the North American Finals.
What could fill up 7,000 Bradenton and Sarasota hotel rooms? Lots and lots of soccer moms and dads. The United Soccer Leagues announced Thursday that it has selected IMG Academies in Bradenton to host its Super-20 and Super-Y League North American Finals for the next three years. Thirty division-winning Super-20 will compete in matches this July, while 150 Super-Y teams (considered the premier amateur league for 12- to 17-year-olds) will battle it out in December. Organizers expect that 15,000 visitors will fill those 7,000 hotel rooms in the December finals alone. “We look forward to working with the USL, the largest and most respected organization of amateur soccer leagues in North America, to host these and many more events in the …

That’s OK, because the bar formerly known as Cheers was a quaint, quiet watering hole. But it could use a touch of the sports.
It’s called the New Attitude Sports Lounge. A fine bar, and a historic one, located at 3601 14th Street West. Regulars remember it during its heyday in the 1970s. It went through myriad changes and management. It was most recently known as Cheers, and then last year it abruptly closed then reopened a few months later with new management and a new name. The name seems a bit off, though. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a knock on the place. When it was known as Cheers, it had a certain understated charm with its low lights, loyal following, excellent prices and friendly staff. The attitude really didn’t need changing, and I don’t believe it has changed. That's a good thing. But with the exception of pool and darts, it doesn’t have much in the…

Specializing in Puerto Rican cuisine, this restaurant is gaining a strong following with its delectable dishes and fun atmosphere.
A year ago, satisfying a craving for Puerto Rican cuisine was virtually impossible in Bradenton. Now that Casa de Caguas has settled in at 1714 14th St. W., Bradenton residents can enjoy Puerto Rican dishes whenever their taste buds cry out for the sweet and savory flavors of the island. Edward Stevens, a former beer distributor from Chicago, opened the restaurant in October after noting that he couldn't find restaurants in Bradenton that served authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. “I came to Florida to retire, but I couldn’t stay out of the restaurant business, so here I am – ‘retired,’” Stevens said, jokingly. “Opening this restaurant was a logical choice. I could have done French or Greek or Italian, but there’s already plenty of that here …

Most bars in town have drink specials this Saturday and Old Main Street is hosting a 'Get Down'-style bash.
Old Main Street will be transformed into downtown Bradenton’s biggest party Saturday in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Set up for the event begins at 3 p.m. after the weekly Downtown Bradenton Farmers’ Market wraps up, so heads up motorists, Old Main Street (12th Street West between Manatee and 3rd avenues) isn't going to be available Saturday. The event, put on by the Old Main Street Merchants Association, officially starts at 4 p.m. Dozens of vendors from around the area and beyond are planning to line both sides of the historic street with tasty food, arts and crafts and everything in between. Milonga Argentine Steakhouse on University Avenue is temporarily closed according to its answering machine.
Diners might have noticed an empty parking lot at Milonga Argentine Steakhouse lately, but it's not expected to be empty for long. The restaurant, located at 3005 University Parkway just west of Lockwood Ridge Road in Manatee County, is temporarily closed for minor repairs, according to a recorded message that plays when patrons call the restaurant. It's unclear for how long and what specific repairs are needed. Sarasota Tango Info reported on its blog that the restaurant general manager Santiago Quinn said the restaurant had ceased operations April 15 after the tango group had to cancel an event scheduled for Sunday, May 6: "Santi said that words could not express his heartfelt gratitude for the support our Tango community had given him…

Green G Fitness is a new boutique fitness studio in Bradenton geared toward those who want a high quality workout without getting lost in the chaos of a big gym.
Bradenton’s newest boutique fitness studio, Green G Fitness Studio, is on a mission to provide a diverse selection of high caliber fitness programs rivaling those of Bradenton’s bigger gyms, but in what owner Grenita “Green” Bolan says is a more intimate and drama-free setting. Bolan has an extensive history in personal training, having worked at big name gyms all over Bradenton such as Lifestyle Family Fitness, Shapes and City Fitness, whose size, she said, makes it difficult for instructors to focus on their clients. “Once big gyms get your money, they often tend to lose sight of you,” Bolan said. “This studio caters to a different population. Some people prefer those bigger gyms where they can work out on all the machines, but this is a…
