The Salvation Army has unveiled plans for a $7.4 million three-story complex on 14th Street West that will include a store, restaurants and transitional living apartments for families. The Bradenton Herald is reporting that residents of the facility would get skills training and pay rent on a sliding fee scale. They may live for months or years at the complex. The mixed-use facility is an unusual effort by the Salvation Army. Maj. Dwayne Durham presented the plans to the community on Thursday, May 16. The forum was held under a tent in a vacant lot next to the Salvation Army property, at 1204 14th St W. No one opposed the plan. The development would not be completed for another two to three years. Developers have chosen a site and cleared an early hurdle in developing Bradenton's first Wawa gas station and convenience store. Would you shop there?
Bradenton is poised to get its first Wawa gas station and convenience store. The popular Midwest chain is on an aggressive Florida expansion, with Bradenton one of the next in line for development. (See Wawa Exploring Possibility For Bradenton Store.) The city's planning commission has agreed to grant Wawa developers a special use permit for a site at 4455 State Road 64 East, according to Bradenton.com. Plans for the Wawa development are expected to be heard on June 12 at 8:30 a.m., when the planning commission's recommendations for the store are presented to the City Council at its regular meeting, according to Bradenton.com. The popular craft and hobby store will host a grand opening for its new Bradenton location.
Hobby Lobby, a popular craft store coming to the Pinebrook Square at Cortez Road West and 43rd Street West in Bradenton, will hold a grand opening Monday, May 27, the company said. The 51,000-square-foot craft and hobby store at 4490 Cortez Rd. W. is one of more than 500 Hobby Lobby locations in the country. A new Sarasota Hobby Lobby will open May 20 at the site of a former Kmart at 8191 S. Tamiami Trail. The stores carry everything from furniture and vases to clocks, birdhouses and arts and crafts supplies. An old Winn-Dixie sits vacant at the corner of State Road 70 and Lockwood Ridge Road in Bradenton. What would you like to see built in its place?
Developers have planned to build a new shopping center at the corner of State Road 70 and Lockwood Ridge Road in Bradenton for years now. A long-shuttered Winn-Dixie grocery store sits empty on the 26.5-acre property, along with signs from developer Adler Group advertising spaces for lease in the future "West Lakes Plaza Community Shopping Center." Not far away, a new 45,000-square-foot Publix is being constructed, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports, right next to a CVS.
