Have you ever thought it would be fun to host an Exchange Student, but didn't want to take the big leap of a year? Well Education First lets you get your feet wet with a 2 or 3 week program.
We even give you a choice from three countries and you get to read profiles and choose the student you want to host. Host families just provide the student a bed and 3 meals a day. They also must bring them to planned EF events. But your family is welcome to join us on those events.
The Bradenton/Sarasota area has students from France and Spain coming here in July for 3 weeks. Yes only 3 weeks: July 5 - 30. This is an immersion group. The kids improve their English skills by being immersed into an English speaking family. They don't go to school, but EF staff provides the student and your family the chance to go on a weekly fieldtrip. We will be going to Airheads in Tampa, Tervis Tumbler after they make their own cups, shopping at Ellenton Outlet Mall, and we also even take them to Disney for you.
Then in August we have students from China coming here for only 2 weeks, August 2 - 17. These students do go to school from 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. So this program is great for working families. The students spend the evenings and weekends with their host family. These students will be going to the beach, shop in our malls, and make their own Tervis Tumblers. Host families can join us on these events also.
If the host family has teenagers they earn 45 - 60 community service hours toward Bright Futures for hosting a student. Host families also earn travel discounts for their own family. And if your student would like to travel you can get discounts for that too. Last year two of my host families sent their children to Spain and Costa Rica with EF and got discounts because they hosted one of our students. If you have a Girl Scout she can earn a badge for hosting an exchange student. And EF has special programs just for Girl Scout groups to travel.
Students are 12 through 17 years old, Come fully medically insured and bring their own spending money. They have been studying English in their countries, but they want to come experience the American way of life.

EF is a non profit 501C and we do not pay host families for hosting a student. But we do make donations to organizations and churches who help us recruit host families. We donate $25 for each family who signs up and hosts the whole time. We have about 26 students left to place. So that would be $650 for your group. And this is alot more fun than selling candy, washing cars, or a bake sale.
Please call Sherree at 941 545 7300 for more info or to apply. Everyone is welcome to apply: families, single parents, seniors, couples. We already have over 80 families signed up from North Manatee to South Sarasota. But we need you too. Time is running out to secure good homes for the kids. And that doesn't mean you have to be a millionare to host. We have all income levels signed up. But they all are families with an open heart and want the opportunity to show these students how wonderful Americans are. Please consider opening you home to a teen this summer!
