Lee Wetherington Homes will spend more than $30,000 to renovate the second floor of the DeSoto Boys and Girls Club at 5231 34th St W in Manatee County, FL. The unveiling ceremony, opened to the media and the public will be held on Aug. 28, 2012, at 5 p.m.

“This whole space will be transformed into one of the best Boys and Girls Club teen centers in the area,” said Lee Wetherington, founder of Lee Wetherington Homes.

Lee Wetherington has been part of the Boys and Girls Club movement since 1990 and has transformed several other clubs in the region in addition to building the state- of- the -art club bearing his name on Fruitville Road in Sarasota. “I’ve been mainly working in Sarasota, but I’ve been on the boards of both counties, and I just always look for projects with them that I can really change the lives of a lot of kids- and this is one of them,” said Wetherington.

At the DeSoto club, the second floor was being used but was in a state of disrepair with sagging ceiling tiles and holes in the floors.  At the completion of this makeover the new room will have three sections:  a young boys' section, a group section and a young girls' section, each with their own flat screen television. There will be one large central seating area with a 50-inch flat screen TV for movies and games and the back room will be transformed into a computer lab. In the past, this club has been able to accommodate about 40-45 children; with this new addition, it should be able to accommodate close to 70.

“My company loves to do it, I love to do it, and the coolest thing of all is you will not believe what these kids look like and how their faces brighten up when they see what we do to these centers; it’s fun,” said Wetherington.  Wetherington plans to be on site for the unveiling of the renovations on August 23, 2012 at 5pm.
