What Should Go In Closed Bradenton Sweetbay Stores?

Are you overloaded on grocery stores in Manatee County? What else would you put in these massive stores?

Bradenton is down two grocery stores plus a third closed Sweetbay isn't too far away in Ellenton.

The Sweetbay at 5201 33rd St. E. officially closed Monday, while the store at 8750 State Road 70 E. in Lakewood Ranch closed Tuesday. The Ellenton store at 3410 U.S. 301 also closed Tuesday. The three stores were among 33 Sweetbays scheduled to close in February

We want to know what do you want at those vacant storefronts, Bradenton?

Could you use another grocery store, or would you drive to the nearby Walmart Supercenterss on both 33rd Street and State Road 70? Or perhaps it's time for something completely different.

Here are comments we received so far from our Bradenton Patch Facebook Fans:

  • Arthur Roosa: Another kind of "no-frills" grocery store that can compete with Wally-World price wise!
  • Lenny Cichewicz: Indoor paintball or lasertag facility.
  • April Joy Warenchak: Oh I'd love to see Albertson's come back in full force! Miss them here in Palmetto!

I'd like to see Kroger come down from up north and give Publix a run for their money.

Walmart is trying to take over....Then the prices will soar when there is no competition. We need more competing grocery stores.....

In my opinion Wal-Mart, with their employment, wage, and purchasing practices, has done more damage to the American economy than any other factor.

Safeway would give Publix direct competition; their stores in the Washington, D.C. area are quite similar, with some larger than others.

Why not a Whole Foods Store?

I think this area needs another market for everybody. Whole Foods is rather specialized and somewhat pricey. Your suggestion is a good one as this area could use a few Whole Foods markets; even they are getting competition here from Fresh Fields.

I think an Academy sporting goods would be great for the locals. Easily the best sporting goods store in the south.
