Tips For Stress-Free Moving

Moving can be a stressful time. Here are some ways to keep your sanity, from someone who would know.

"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” — Albert Einstein

Unless you're either in the process of buying or selling a home or have recently had that experience, you've probably forgotten how unnerving and stressful moving can be.

My apologies for not posting a real estate article last week, but I was knee deep in boxes and packing tape!

Our Bradenton real estate brokerage, Keller Williams Realty of Manatee, just moved into our huge, beautiful new office space off of State Road 64 in Braden River Plaza.

As real estate agents, it is our job to assist our clients with the moving process and to offer tips and resources along the way to ease the discomfort and stress that is always a factor. When it's our turn to uproot and re-plant ourselves, we're reminded of the importance of an empathetic shoulder and reliable support.  Feeling the pressure of 'relocation anxiety" up close and personal gives us, as agents, the opportunity to tweak our services to ensure that we're meeting our clients' needs during one of the most challenging times of their lives.

Here are some quick moving tips and resource tools that I've gathered from the Web that will help you focus, organize and execute your move with a lot less foreboding:

  • Put it on paper! Creating a plan and timeline will help you stay on task and keep your focus. More on creating a timeline ...
  • Always have a checklist! Not only does a checklist help you stay organized, but it offers the psychological benefit of watching your list get smaller and smaller. Print a moving checklist here ...
  • Get recommendations and consult with professionals! Don't try to manage this overwhelming process on your own. Ask for help from family, friends and trusted professionals. An educated opinion or suggestion will save you a lot of unnecessary discomfort and time. More professional tips on moving ...

Additionally, don't forget the obvious: Get plenty of rest; eat with health, not convenience, in mind; and take breaks to do whatever best suits your personal style for relaxation and for release of negative energy. Keep your chin up ... it will be over before you know it!
