I too watched the show and was absolutely fascinated! I think our government wants us to believe it was fiction, however I personally believe many of the "facts" presented were true facts and other were conjecture. Either way this certainly was not the first government cover up and won't be the last. It is not "politically correct" to kill whales and other sea creatures. I found the story both compelling and disturbing.

Uh… no. There has been no body found, "officially," or recently. There have been three purported, the last being in the early 1900's, of which science was not at that time progressed enough to analyze the remains properly. And they were simply the remains of an unknown aquatic mammal that physically could not be recognized. It just didn't look like anything science was familiar with at that time. (Could have been a full grown coelacanths and they wouldn't have known the difference since at that time the coelacanths was believed to be extinct.
The only other ace in the whole for believers or hopeful well-wishers is eye witness reports by sailors as long as man has been sailing from every sailing nation on the face of the earth. Mermaids (not an aquatic ape, silly) (and not half human females/half fish, ha ridiculous) have been seen the world over for thousands of years. But that is eye witness, or second hand, or hearsay, nothing more. And all the depictions offered to us today are just that, depictions. Someone’s "idea" (based on a beautiful modern female) of what they should (or what they would like them to) look like. (Uh,hem, were they to exists.)

The making of this film was to expose the Navy's cover-up of their responsibility for the mass bleaching of whales and dolphins and the major discovery of a new species of life. These people are scientists who worked for NOAA and are very credible.

Well, I do believe finally through shows such as "Ancient Aliens" & Discovery people's views are changing and frankly I feel these shows offer the viewer an education far from what we learned in our history books. They certainly have changed the way I view the world. Mythology has always fascinated me. More and more I feel like these stories that are Fairy tale,Folklore and Myth aren't an attempt from the author to make the story interesting or romantic. I believe many of these stories are factual . So amazing....We do have a forgotten past.

The fact that they have cave drawings and other depictions of mermaids going back thousands of years makes me think about the ancient alien theory, and about how it was our ancestors way of telling what they saw. Our ancestors have seen so many amazing things that we now just brush off as fairy tails or folk lore. In the last few years my views have totally changed and I firmly believe in mermaids and aliens and anything else because there was no reason for them to lie, they were recording history for us to find. DO NOT be surprised when at some point in the near future an actual alien or mermaid makes a grand appearance and all you bible thumping church goers can eat it. Because we were right all along. If it was discredited by our faithful big brother government then it is real!

It is a sad day,that in this current day and age that people still believe we are the only intelligent beings!!! I just watched this and had so many confliting emotions. My last thought after watching, go google it. So, im here now. I've read about the first dozen comments. I have come to the conclusion that the exsistience of them is unimportant. Okay, you found big foot, you are not crazy, do u want a cookie? I mean the whale killing and shit is wrong but other wise I dont care. It is unlikely that I will ever know if the special is credibale or not. The videos could be real and the gov. is just saying they are fake. It could have also all been staged, just as a lot of people are saying. I have never seen a mermaid, or "aquatic humanoid", and wether I do or not will never affect my life.

I have conflicting emotions regarding this mermaid documentary. it was an entertaining show and the possibilities are intriguing. What is perplexing is that there isn't proof one way or the other that mermaids exist. What disappoints me is that the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet shows have lost credibility as informative and educational sources. It seems their ratings maintaining objective is to entertain with fiction rather than inform with facts.

I would love for the merfolks to sue the government in a wrongful death suit (using sonar as a deadly weapon). Well I think if The Discovery Channel is going to air shows that are not factual or real they should say so at the beginning of the show. I look to The Discovery Channel to learn new things and expect what I see on the channel to be real. I would not have watched the show on the mermaids of I knew it was just a story. Shame on them.
