Scott's Low Approval Rating Nudges Upward

Close to 40 percent of voters in Florida think the governor is doing a good job, up from 31 percent.

Make no mistake, Gov. Rick Scott is still among the least popular governors in the country, tied for sixth least liked out of 36 we have polled on since the start of 2011.  39% approve of his job performance and 51% disapprove--still not good numbers, but the best we've ever found for him.  That is up from a 31-56 spread just a month earlier.

Scott's improvement is a combination of a rise in his support from independents and his own party.

  • Independents now split on him, 43-43, when they were at 26-60 in June.  That is over half his improvement.
  • The rest comes from Republicans, who now sit at 64-27 on their governor, versus 53-31.

He has still upset too many of his own partisans, but he is coming back to safer territory.

Scott also has pulled to within three points of Charlie Crist in a hypothetical match-up 44 to 41 percent.

Florida GOP Raises $9.1 Million to Dems' $2.2 Million

The Republican Party of Florida collected nearly $9.1 million in contributions between April 1 and Aug. 9, more than four times as much as the Florida Democratic Party brought in, according to newly filed reports.

The GOP has raised a total of $12 million this year. The Democratic Party raised about $2.2 million during the recent period and has collected slightly more than $3.3 million this year.

  • Progress Energy, which recently merged with Duke Energy, was one of the top donors to the GOP since April 1, contributing $560,000.
  • Other big donors included Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who gave $250,000.

Florida Democrat Congressional Candidates Hold Razor-Thin Lead

Democrats have a razor-thin one-point edge in a generic Congressional ballot in Public Policy Polling's first likely-voter test of that measure.  45% of voters prefer the unnamed Democrat in their district, to 44% who side with the Republican.  That is similar to June's 46-44.  The two parties are polarized, but the GOP leads 45-30 with independents.

MUST-SEE: MIKE WEINSTEIN'S NEW WONDERFULLY HORRIBLE TV SPOT via The News Service of Florida.

The Aaron Bean-Mike Weinstein race has been one of the least clean and nice among the Republican primaries - but Mike Weinstein's new video seems to imply that that's not really what Weinstein would like. His new video suggests, "Don't be nasty and mean, let's all keep it clean."

And then it suggests doing the Weinstein Slide, and "breaking it on down with M-I-K-E"

This video might get the award for song that is least like the outward appearance of the candidate it backs.

Senate District 18: Wilton Simpson raised more than $300,000

Though he appears to face little opposition in Senate District 18, Trilby Republican Wilton Simpson has raised more than $300,000 for the fall election. Simpson collected $25,400 between July 21 and Aug. 9, bringing his overall total to $301,750, according to new campaign-finance reports via the News Service of Florida.

The only other candidate in the race, Hudson Democrat Joshua Smith, had raised a total of $2,000, and that money came from the Florida Democratic Party, largely to pay Smith's fees to qualify for the race. The newly drawn District 18 includes parts of Hernando, Pasco and Sumter counties.

CHICK-FIL-A POPULAR IN FLORIDA:  54% see it favorably and 20% unfavorably

NOT A LIST ADAM HASNER WANTS TO BE ON: The former Florida House Majority Leader and congressional candidate is No. 3 on BuzzFeed's list of the 8 craziest candidates of 2012.

Rick Scott is doing a Great jobs as Governor in our State of Florida. People were mislead about the Medicare fraud that is why some people do not like Rick Scott. The investigation of Columbia/HCA was because Rick Scott testified before Congress against Hilary Clinton's University Heath Care Plan for all American and she got mad and started an investigation on his company. Ask your self why Rick Scott is Governor and not in prison if he was involve in Medicare fraud.

Like most large shareholders, CEO's etc. Gov. Scott escaped any punishment for the Medicare fraud his company paid large fines for when a non-partisan investigation concluded, I believe, during the second Bush (GOP) Administration. Corporations may be people but the actual people who lead and reap the profits from cheating companies are never held accountable. Just between us, it is "universal" health care. That is, health care which would cover all Americans so every American would be responsible for paying for their health care rather than the uninsured who are unable to pay health care bills increasing the costs for the rest of us. A "university" is what wealthy people who can afford the costs attend so they can get jobs with good health care and vote against universal health care covering the rest of us.

i am happy with scott...he acts with balls, he is decisive and right on with many of his decisions. I am happy with his drug testing for welfare....with his election screening...only legit residents can vote....i was happy with his decision about the train....that was a fat cat plan to make the rich richer and the nobama dealmakers happier...the governor in Ca verified what Scott said about the cost going way over budget and under estimated... so far so good ...what i am not happy about with crist is that he let the skyway pier get torn apart. bad bad move...i hope scott will see that it is worth the effort to save whats left of it

I wish Gov. Scott was interested in "legit residents' voting. He has done nothing to deal with the fraud in absentee ballots. The recent case in Miami where a representative of a GOP candidate distributed and collected ballots from nursing home residents who could not even read or sign their names is a good example of the real fraud possibilities. Protecting the right to vote (especially of vulnerable people) and preventing fraud deserves a real discussion, not fear-inducing posturing. Gov. Scott's policies which are directed only at non-resident voters showing up at the polls to vote is a poor solution to a non-existent problem. And that pretty much sums up what his whole approach to government has been so far: poor solutions to phony problems while ignoring the real issues.

The Supreme Court will probably rule that corporations are people, but too young to be executed! Although they will still approve of life in prison for children as young as 12.

The US Government executed many corporations. Look at the Chrysler dealers executed after the bail out. GM gets a new life, bond holders were screwed, and Chrysler dealers fired for no reason. It happened in Texas and all the other 5o states.

It was very sad to have so many long-time dealerships (often family owned) go out of business during the auto crisis. However, the dealership system had become an inefficient delivery system for auto products. Unfortunately there were too many dealers who had stopped being competitive, and frankly, too much corruption. If one is going to really follow a free market philosophy, one has to be able to stomach the consequences. The people who lost their jobs at dealerships are the real victims since they had no say in creating the problem and no say in the solution. Although many people blame only the unions (and their benefits which build a healthy middle class) for the auto crisis, board and executive management made poor decisions for years before the crisis. Unfortunately few of them suffered as did the employees or the dealerships.

Scott's approval seems to increase at about the same rate of voter disenfranchisement. Could there be a connection(?), why I bet if he could eliminate the entire liberal electorate he'd be the most popular guy in the state of Fl. So he was a crook in business, that's just creative policys as for being a failure as governor(?) , has he not succeeded in bringing our state squarely under the heel of the tea-party wing-nut fringe?Sounds like we're on our way to a plutocracy. In a world run by a few with a iron hand, well just who might have done better? Genius! Genius I tells ya!

He is spooky or creepy looking. Why is he always ringing his hands??? Why does he persist in hiding emails? I'm so pleased that he is less hated by the electorate. Perhaps he can do something to deserve it soon.

Rick Scott is a fraud. The Tea party ideas are starting to fall one by one just as their Primary Candidates did.... the harder they tried to the faster they failed. The Tea party congressmen and their hard line positions are causing them to lose as of late.Obstruction to Comprimise is losing issue... so is Exclusion .The term "Constitution of our founding Fathers" and themany times used "Wanting Our Country Back" are the gateway phrases. ....Dog whistle talk for hate towards Creed, Gender, or Race......Wake up baggers time is shfting against those ideas.

Concern citizen You arte wrong about Gov Scott He paid his way out of jail If he was not guilty, the shareholders would of not forced him out I have a book on this guy so please recheck your facts . Also he like most other reps refused to pass a prescription drug database for ten years. Gov Scott interferred with the contract for the database when they did pass it full of loopholes to help the drug dealers . He will be out of office soon
