Man Charged With DUI After Driving Up to Accident Scene
The man was arrested, fought with officers and kicked in a door panel of a patrol car.
Maybe he thought he was stopping for a traffic check or maybe it was just the end of a tough weekend that just got tougher after a man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and drug possession after he blocked in officers working a traffic accident.
Deputies from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office were assisting the Florida Highway Patrol with an accident at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday in the 5100 block of U.S. 301 when Thomas Buick drove up to patrol cars with their lights flashing and blocked the accident scene, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's report.
According to the report:
When a deputy approached Buick's vehicle he realized that the driver was impaired. He asked Buick to get out of the vehicle and Buick became verbally abusive toward the deputy. That's when the deputy arrested Buick and had to force him to get into the back of the patrol car after he refused.
Buick was taken to the Manatee County jail and while he was being taken out of the car, he kicked the rear passenger door frame of the vehicle bending it outward and causing about $1,000 in damage.
Buick was charged with felony criminal mischief, felony drug possession, DUI, failure to register a vehicle, driving with unassigned tags and resisting arrest.
