Florida Amendment 2: Veterans Property Tax
Take a closer look at the proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution before you vote.
Amendment 2: Veterans Disabled to Combat Injury; Homestead Property Tax Discount
This proposed amendment would give disabled veterans who did not live in Florida when they entered the military a break on their property taxes. It essentially extends the homestead property tax discounts to include them.
This is another amendment that faces strong opposition. The League of Women Voters of Florida says this amendment could cost local governments as much as $15 million over the first three years of its implementation.
Supporters argue the amendment would help veterans and might assist in boosting the housing market.

Democrats and the League of Women Voters opposed Amendment 2. They are throwing Florida's combat disabled veterans under the bus. Read this: http://watchdogwire.com/florida/2012/10/04/florida-democrats-told-to-vote-against-combat-wounded-veterans/

This is a blatant attempt to lure a particular demographic into relocating to the State of Florida using a special incentive. The test is to substitute this special class for another special class and see if the motion is still one you would support. For instance, let's give tax breaks to induce morbidly obese people to move Wauchula. This will make our beaches more attractive and stimulate tourism. Doesn't sound like such a good proposal now, does it?
I am a Veteran with a service-related disability and I am voting 'NO" on Amendment 2.
