6-Year-Old Bayflited Following Pit Bull Attack

The incident occurred Sunday evening in the 1100 block of 36th Avenue West.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is reporting a 6-year-old Bradenton boy was taken by Bayflite helicopter to a local hospital after being bitten by a pit bull Sunday evening.

According to the police report, the boy's stepmother was doing laundry on the back porch of a house located at 1104 36th Ave. W. when she walked into the kitchen and saw the dog biting the young victim.

The stepmother began hitting the dog in an attempt to make it stop biting the boy, at which time the dog's owner, whom the family was staying with, came in and assisted the woman.

The dog eventually released the child and was placed in the backyard, according to the report.

The boy was transported by helicopter to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he was reported to be in stable condition at this time.

Animal control arrived at the scene and took the dog away pending the outcome of the investigation.
