15-Year-Old Charged With Murder in New Year's Day Shooting

The shooting is believed to be drug related.

A 15-year-old is the second person who has been arrested in connection with the year's first homicide. Manatee County's homicide unit arrested a second person in connection with the killing of a 19-year-old in the parking lot of a gas station, the first murder of the year.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff's report:

Jimmy Rivers, 15, was charged with murder on Friday after he turned himself in to authorities in connection with the shooting death of Paul Grieco in the parking lot of a gast station. Grieco, 19, was killed on January 1.

The State Attorney's Office will decide whether Rivers will be charged as an adult, said Dave Bristow, a spokeman for the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

on Jan. 2 and charged with murder in the case. Detectives believe both subjects fired their weapons, killing Grieco and injuring Brandon Keisel.

Keisel and Greico were in a car with a third person. The trio pulled into the Chevron gas station at 1832 Manatee Ave. E. when three men approached them, they talked for a few minutes and then at least two of the people who approached the car pulled out guns and shot into the car. The shooting was drug related, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's office.

Detectives say they have identified a third subject who was present during the shooting but he has not been charged at this time.  This case is being investigated by the newly formed Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit.
